From 1992 until 2007, Flavia contributed articles as a freelance writer to the News Straits Times, NST, an English language newspaper daily. The editor, Fatimah Abu Bakar, who commissioned her to write these articles for the Entertainment page of the NST, gave Flavia carte blanche
to write all the music reviews and interviews as and when there were classical music concerts in Kuala Lumpur, especially at the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas.
In 1998, the new concert hall, the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas, DFP, was officially inaugurated. Flavia was asked to write about the DFP and its new concert Klais pipe organ from Germany. Subsequently when another concert Klais pipe organ was installed at the Esplanade in Singapore, Flavia contributed an article about it which spanned over three pages in the Arts Magazine publication.
